Coach Hamlin

Standard

My name is Jennifer C. Hamlin.  I was born in the heart of Texas, otherwise known as Brownwood and have gone by the name J.C. since I was two hours old because eight (8) other Jennifer’s were born the night I was.  Though I don’t remember it, I called Brownwood and San Angelo home for the first three years of my life at which time my family relocated to the DFW Metroplex.  I grew up in Carrollton-Farmers Branch and am lucky enough to now teach in that school district.  From early on, my mother and softball coach encouraged me to become a teacher and coach.  I was determined to not be the typical jock and make a name for myself in the “real world.” Therefore, in 2000, I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communication Studies and a minor in Political Science.  I found a great job in the “real world” but wasn’t satisfied, so three (3) years later I became a certified teacher.  It was the best move I ever made.  In the nine (9) years since I’ve graduated, I’m amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience in communication, marketing, and education.  As a teacher and coach, I developed curriculum and co-authored district specific courses as well as served as campus lead for the Fine Arts Department with respect to Communication Application in addition to serving as campus female athletic coordinator.  In 2006, I was given the opportunity to rewrite the Communication Application course I now teach online for the University of Texas High School.

Outside of the professional world, I am an avid softball player and coach.  I of course love sports, especially football and baseball and within the last year have become addicted to CrossFit.  I am an advocate for animal rescue and have adopted from as well as volunteered with DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue for several years.  I love to cook, though am probably better known by humans and hounds for my baking and cake decorating skills.  I’m a music lover and enjoy everything from Andrea Bocelli to George Strait to Journey and Queen.  My faith and fellowship with others is key to making me smile each day.  I’m involved with Coaches Outreach and love the time I get to spend learning from others and sharing my insight on some of the most beautiful and definitely the most profound words ever written.  Most weekends are spent in the box doing a WOD, watching the game, remodeling my home, working in the yard, enjoying the pool with my pups, or simply just exploring/learning about new things to fall in love with.  I am surrounded by extremely supportive friends and family who have been by my side every step of the way.  I love watching my Texas Longhorns, Rangers, Cowboys, and numerous other local teams.  I believe words have power, even the simple ones like, “I.”  For this reason, I’m also a BIG fan of quotes.  Of late, I find myself thinking about and trying to embody the one below…
